About Us

We can confirm for all current and prospective IFON members that our union does not affiliate with any political party either within Scotland or the UK. Our membership fees are entirely used for the core purpose of providing our service to all members and we have never donated, nor will we in the future, to any political organisation.

We are however registered with the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 – (certificate under section 2(5)) which is formally lodged with Frederick Street in Edinburgh along with all other unions in Scotland.

Elaine Shephard (General Secretary).
My name is Elaine Shephard.  I previously worked within the Specialist Mental Health Service.  I recently joined IFON on a permanent basis.  I have been a member of IFON since it was first established and have witnessed the high standard of representation IFON members receive.  I look forward to an exciting future within this excellent organisation

My name is Gerard Baillie and I am a Nursing Assistant at Dykebar hospital. I have been nursing for over 30 years and I have been a member of IFON for over 15 years. IFON is a fantastic organisation.

Rita Moorhead (Deputy Chairperson)
Hi my name is Rita Moorhead. I am a Community Psychiatric Nurse working within Greater Glasgow & Clyde. I qualified in 1988 from Glasgow North School of Nursing & Midwifery. I have been appointed to the position of Deputy Chairperson and I am looking forward to taking up this role. I believe that IFON is a ground breaking union which is the way forward for Scottish nurses.
Nichola Docherty (Aird) (Deputy Treasurer )
I have been nursing for 22 years and have worked in a variety of fields within Psychiatry.  I previously worked within the NHS, however presently am employed within the Private Sector, caring for elderly residents.  I have enjoyed being involved with IFON for over 10 years and have gained knowledge contributing within the Executive Committee.
Lorraine Bell (Treasurer)
I am Lorraine Bell and I have been nursing for almost 40 years. I have had various roles in nursing and am currently a Scrub Nurse in Theatres. I have been a member of IFON since 2000. I look forward to many more years as a committee member with this excellent union.

My name is Anne Ingram. I have joined IFON as a part time Secretary and am enjoying working in a busy, friendly and efficient organisation. I look forward to many more years with IFON.
Eithne Crumlish (Secretary)
My name is Eithne Crumlish. I am currently employed as a Nursing Advisor within NHS24. I qualified in 1999. I have worked in a variety of areas within Greater Glasgow & Clyde. I am Secretary to the Independent Federation of Nursing which is not only a union but a family.

I am a Partner in NewLaw Scotland, having qualified in 1997.  I have devoted most of my career to representing clients with complex needs and securing compensation for losses suffered through the fault of others.  I have successfully represented IFON members for more than 15 years.
